Happy Halloween

A little spider on a pumpkin I saw on my parents' back patio. I took this picture quite a long time ago and finally have a good place to put it. My take on Halloween. Admit it, the traditional "scary" stuff is getting a bit old. Enjoy this.

I hope you all have a Happy Halloween. Eat some candy, scare some kids, watch some cool/crappy movies, have fun. I'll see you all tomorrow.

Animal of the Day - 10.30.2010

Weekends are always busy for me, and this weekend/today is no exception. I usually try to post something I find more substantial that my usual posts, whether it be the amount of pictures or just the content. So today I've decided to share some of my favorite pictures. I hope you enjoy them.

This little guy is an Io moth caterpillar. Exactly one month ago I was at an outdoor concert at the local arboretum (the same place this little thing was growing). I noticed this little guy walking past me on the ground. I was happy to see it, like I am with most creatures, so I got a stick and let it crawl on it to take pictures. The spines on the caterpillar contain poison, but I touched it anyway to see how I would react. Nothing happened. I think I stared at this guy for a good 10 minutes before I realized I probably looked like some weirdo to all the people around me, so I put him on a tree and said goodbye. Kind of neat to think that it'll eventually turn into this:

I hope everyone has a good Halloween weekend. I'll be posting one little picture tomorrow in celebration of the day, nothing major. And I'll be resuming my active blog trolling by Monday to catch up with everyone.

Animal of the Day - 10.28.2010

I think I can get away from this guy over here...

Damn. Okay maybe over here...

That's it, you're fucking done for.

Today's Animal of the Day is quite special. Why is it special? Because this little creature was sent to me by the one and only Mr. Rorschach of Rorschach Redemption

I've personally never seen a mantis in real life, which is, to me, unfortunate. I've always found these creatures very interesting. As for the mantis in these pictures, that little guy is the reason why Rorschach does what he does. Shortly after taking these photos the mantis leaped on Rorschach and ripped his throat open. He then fell backwards on a rock, knocking himself unconscious. When Rorschach awoke he was in the hospital with bandages covering his throat and head. The injuries sustained in the mantis attack have since caused him to become obsessed with inkblots (I don't know why, maybe some kid in the next bed over was playing with a Spin Art), which is good for us because who doesn't have fun seeing what our crazy minds can come up with and then sharing it with others to be ridiculed because we see Pedo Bears and dildos and Ninja Turtles and ovaries. The other good thing to come out of this attack is the leftovers of what most would think was a kill shot from the mantis' attack. Rorschach's vocal chords healed in such a way that it left him with a very deep, but gentle, voice that would soothe even the craziest mantis. Don't believe me? Just check out his latest video, or any of them for that matter. Be prepared to be lulled into a nice relaxing sleep.

Thank you for the pictures, Rorschach.

A drink I was sharing with my girlfriend at a hockey game my brother and his wife took us to. I don't drink too much soda. Kidney stones can cause major kidney bankruptcy.

Haha, sorry. Couldn't resist.

Animal of the Day - 10.27.2010

A grasshopper that hopped on the car window while at a gas station. I had my girlfriend drive over to a grassy area next to the station so it could be a bit safer as I took these pictures (as you can see in the background). Afterwards I got out and put it out in the grass.

The sun setting in the Texas sky.

In other news, I'm about to go to the doctor with my girlfriend. I was sick last week with a pretty nasty cold and, like almost always, she caught it and she's feeling really bad from it. Feels guilty bro. So I'm going with her for moral support and because we'll get to spend a little extra time together. I know she'll eventually read this, so I'm sorry and I love you!

Also, she told me yesterday I cuss a lot on my blog (which I don't). Maybe she was just hinting that she wants to see more curse words. So, feel free to help me out in the comments section by putting your favorite expletive somewhere in your normal comment. I'm sure it will speed up her recovery!

Animal of the Day - 10.26.2010

In honor of my, now 201, followers, the Animal of the Day will be one of my favorite animals: the squirrel. And this isn't just any ol' squirrel. This is Squirrellee.

I used to have a squirrel and bird feeder right outside where families of bluejays, cardinals, finches, sparrows, and squirrels would come to hang out and get their eat on. I always noticed this one little squirrel, with a piece missing out of its right ear (probably from a fight with another squirrel). For months this squirrel kept coming back to jump into the bird feeder and eat as much as it could. One day, while sitting outside, I noticed this squirrel started making its way down the tree towards the feeder. It noticed me, but kept coming anyway. Over the next couple of weeks it learned to trust me and would eat out of my hand and even let me pet it. I then named her Squirrellee, and she was my friend.

It's been a long time since I've seen Squirrellee. She's either dead now or moved on to find a nicer vegetarian guy to feed her. Either way, she was awesome - just like all of you.

This is another one of my kidney stones. This picture really belongs with my big post about my kidney stones, but that was focusing on #18 (plus I only recently found this picture). I don't recall exactly which one this was, but I know it was an earlier one because of the fact this is a lab photo. I stopped going to the doctor for kidney stones because there is literally nothing they can do except give you pain meds and then hand you a bill. Only when the stone obstructs the ureter would I seek medical help.

Animal of the Day - 10.25.2010

More pictures of Stretch. Bonus point to anyone who can guess what the second picture reminds me of (a movie scene).

This is one of the pieces of decor in the building of the wedding reception I was at this past Saturday. Stay classy raccoon asshole.

In other news I'm still sick as hell. My wrist is also effed up. I woke up one morning last week and it was hurting, mainly when I bend it backwards. Now I can't even bend it back a few degrees. Any of you doctors know wtf is wrong with me? Am I dying?

Gorillaz & N.E.R.D

I'm going to be out of town for the weekend in just a bit and probably won't be able to post my normal daily stuff as a result. So I've decided to make this a very big post by sharing all the pictures from the Gorillaz & N.E.R.D. show I was at a couple days ago. I hope you all have a good weekend. The rest of the pictures are after the jump.

The Gorillaz show last night was flipping awesome. I'll post the pictures later on.

Animal of the Day - 10.20.2010

Going to see the Gorillaz tonight, so I thought I'd post a few more gorilla pictures. Sorry to anyone whose blog I didn't get to visit today (a lot). I didn't have a lot of free time today and I'm also coming down with something. Feels bad man.

Animal of the Day - 10.19.2010

A Komodo Dragon that resides in the Museum of Living Art (Fort Worth Zoo).

Komodo Dragon Trivia: The Komodo dragon has a third eye in the roof of its cranium. This "third eye" isn't a true eye, but is instead used for sensing light and dark.
