Animal of the Day - 11.30.2010

A squirrel that decided to flop down and chill. I think he was trying to cool his balls (which you can see in pictures 2 and 3) off on the cement. That's right, look at them. I was taking these pictures behind a window (hence the cloudiness of the pictures) and was eventually caught looking.

Animal of the Day - 11.25.2010

A leaffooted bug nymph.

I hope everyone is having a good holiday weekend. I personally don't care for Thanksgiving. I think it's the most pointless of all the more "popular" holidays. If it were up to me, it would be gone. But that doesn't mean I hope you all aren't having (or have had) a good one. I'll be slowly getting back into my blogger duties, what with the food poisoning recovery and holiday here. Thank you for those who visited my vegetarian mind on your own accord. It doesn't go unnoticed.

Animal of the Day - 11.23.2010

More toad pictures from my parents' front yard.

I planned on a nice little return to my blog today and getting back into the swing of things, but unfortunately I'm now suffering greatly with what I think is food poisoning. So, until I get better I hope you all enjoy the toads.

Random Photo of the Day - 11.20.2010

I took these while on the road last weekend.

My usual weekend disclaimer: Weekends are busy for me. That along with some of my girlfriend's family being in town = I won't be visiting as many of your blogs as I normally do on the weekdays. Don't take offense. I'll resume my visits to your wonderful e-homes on Monday, where I will have a lot of catching up to do. I hope you all have a great weekend.

Animal of the Day - 11.19.2010

Another family cat, Werewolf. My mother insists her name is Minnie, but it's not. I named her Werewolf, so that's her name. I'm sure since I no longer live there the name Werewolf isn't used, but whenever I visit it is.

Random Photo of the Day - 11.18.2010

As you may or may not know, every picture I post here, unless noted otherwise, was taken by me (aside from two in the very beginning of this blog when things were awkward). I certainly don't think my pictures are great or professional or anything like that (although some are much better than others). I just take pictures of things I like and that actually make me feel something, whether it's an emotion or a random thought.

But I digress, one of the normal travelers into my vegetarian mind, Rorschach Redemption, has so kindly taken a picture just for me. Yes, he did. He said it was just for me.

"Hey, that crazy meth-head non-meat eater would find this perfectly random."

And let me tell you, I do find it random. We don't know why this cassette tape was left on the ground. We don't know if someone got tired of it, or if it's broken, or if it has been replaced by the far superior portable cd player with cassette adapter. Either way, I'm sure it found a new reason for living when you took this picture of it, Rorschach. Although it was probably run over a few minutes later.

Animal of the Day - 11.17.2010

This is Pilgrim, my favorite animal of all time. You can't see his head in this picture, but I assure you he has one. I describe him to people as a feline version of the samurai. You'll just have to take my word on it.

Also, here's an awesome video of the wonderful song By Some Miracle by the wonderfully awesome Philip Selway. This put me in a good mood yesterday.

Animal of the Day - 11.13.2010

A barn owl that was caught in some wire (notice the bloody wing). It was rescued by my mother's co-workers. It has since recovered and been set free.

I'm still out of town but didn't like the idea of not adding anything until Monday. I'll try my best to visit some of you today, as I have a lot of catching up to do. Hope you all are having a good weekend. Don't forget to spay and neuter your pets.

Animal of the Day - 11.11.2010

I'll be out of town again for the weekend so I doubt I'll be able to make my normal posts each day. So I'm going to leave you with some of my favorite pictures. These photos were taken inside an aviary at the Fort Worth Zoo. When you walk in you buy little feeding sticks then walk around and feed the birds. This is my favorite thing to do at the zoo, aside from going to the children's petting zoo, because you can actually interact with the animals. Most (if not all) of these pictures were taken by my girlfriend, as I was the one feeding/holding the birds. I hope you all have a good weekend.

Oh me so happy

Animal of the Day - 11.10.2010

A very cool little turtle.

Random Photo of the Day 11.10.2010

Some plant life.

I rarely play games online. However since getting Red Dead Redemption I was occasionally drawn into it because of how fun the single player campaign was. I'd hop in multiplayer every now and then and get obliterated by higher levels in free road (usually riding by on their mount with a stick of dynamite). Sometimes it would be aggravating, but for the most part it was fun. I enjoyed being a level 4 and being chased by a level 45 with a sniper rifle on a horse. I got some good shots on that guy, even killed his horse. But whatever. Last night I couldn't sleep so I decided to log into multiplayer again. I went into Gang Matches and was teamed up with a couple of people with 4 or 5 other guys. Two of them had headsets, so I could hear them the whole time. Before the match started they were joking in a way I'm used to. Teasing at first, until they get mad by something (usually something that shows them they're not superior to others in some way) and then they really get mad. This is a funny part of a personality when it involves video games. Luckily this guy ended up on the other team.

Get that faggot! Then find my PS3 controller!
I'll say this now, I suck at multiplayer. I haven't played it long enough to develop any skills, the type of skills that you desperately need in multiplayer (this was only about my 4th time). However, last night, I owned. Maybe the other team was just really crappy, I don't know. But it was fun. They would camp on top of ammo boxes and wait for me or one of my guys to walk by then unload on us. After a couple of deaths I figured I'd just bait them. So I'd get the weapons and ammo I needed then stroll by them without stopping. This caused them to chase after me. Once that started I was able to confuse them and have them all running around for the rest of the match. I ended up killing so many of them it wasn't even funny. After a few kills I started getting called quite the few names. It's even funnier to hear some redneck start talking about me like I diddled his little sister in high school and he just now realized it was me. I got called faggot, faggot, and......hold on I'm trying to remember what else..... He was also apparently mad that I was strategically taking cover when being shot at from five different directions. That got a very funny, "Man that fuckin' faggot is hiding in a corner jackin' off." He was right, by the way. If you hold down L3 then press Square 8 times you will, indeed, start to jack off. He tried rushing up some stairs to catch me mid-jack off and unload a shotgun on me. He got shot in the head while doing so. I'm such a faggot.

This isn't a great story by any means, and if I had a capture card I would be so much better. But alas, I do not. I just had to share one of my first fun online experiences. I know there are tons of weirdos online who freak out about losing, but this is one of my first real encounters where they singled me out. I literally had fun with every aspect of it, including getting killed. Too bad he couldn't.

NO ONE KILLS BUBBA WHILE THEY'RE JACKING OFF!!

NOOOOOO   OOOOOOONNNNNNNNEEEEEE!!!!!!

Animal of the Day - 11.9.2010

Random Photo of the Day - 11.9.2010

I took this on Ellis Island. I'm not trying to make a statement with this picture as I've never thought showing an object (like flag or pin or a sticker on your bumper) gives insight to the type of person you are. Unless your bumper sticker says," Single and loving it." I just like the way certain things move in the wind. Also on that list: plastic bags. So, American Flag, you're in good company.

Like stickers? Check out GetGlue!

GetGlue is a social network for entertainment. It's not as annoying as facebook, so don't worry. All you do is sign up and start checking in to movies and tv shows you're watching, games you're playing, books you're reading, topics you're thinking about, food and drink you are enjoying (you get the point), and in the process - earn cool AND FREE stickers!

There are all sorts of stickers you can earn. There are limited edition stickers for movie and televisoin premiers or certain episodes of tv shows, stickers for certain authors and artists, as well as stickers just for specific shows, movies, and even different networks. I currently have 121 stickers, I would have more by now but I haven't had time to waste trying to get new ones. And in case you're wondering what happens once you've earned these stickers (aside from having them displayed like trophies!),  once you've earned at least 15 stickers you can then have them mailed to you - for FREE.

Just a few of the stickers you can earn

So, if you're bored and/or want some cool stickers then check out GetGlue. You can also use the GetGlue app on your iPhone, iPad or Android.

Have a good weekend and don't forget to eat your broccoli!

A Few Things...

I'll be fairly busy today as I'm babysitting starting this afternoon until late this night. So instead of posting the normal stuff I'm just going to leave this here...

First off, I need some help. I have an mkv file which I want to save on my PS3 to be able to watch as I please. Unfortunately the PS3 doesn't support mkv. I know I can stream the file and it would be converted through the program I'm streaming it through, but I hate streaming media to my PS3. It lags, and as I said I want it to be saved to the hard drive. When I get mkv files I usually use the mkv2vob software to easily convert the file which I can then view on my PS3. However, when I try to convert this particular mkv file I get an "unsupported audio codec error." I've tried a few other programs (from the suggestions of people on different forums) but they drastically reduce the picture quality (it's HD/720p quality). If anyone knows how I can convert this file to a playable format for my PS3 without losing any of the quality I would greatly appreciate it. And because I don't know much about things like this (at least in this situation), I'm sure the following info of the file would be appreciated:
--Audio--
Audio Codec: MPEG-1 Audio layer 2
Channels: 2
Bitrate: 256 Kbps
Sample Rate: 48000
Audio Size: 144.40 MB
--Video--
Screen Resolution: 1280 x 720
Video Codec: AVC
Bitrate: 11.8 Mbps
FPS: 25.000
Duration: 1:18:51
Total Frames: 118291
Video Size: 6,499.26 MB
File Size: 6,778.52

Second, I'd like to share another blog with you. It is a newborn, still opening its eyes to the world that is so bright. Like a niece or nephew, you can see it will grow into something wonderful. Like a wise and crazy old person, you'll play the role of the cool aunt or uncle, slowly influencing the growth of it and watching it mature into something you're a bit proud of, maybe a bit afraid of. The blog, Empty Giant, will expose you to all different sorts of stories, wonderful photography, and all the good weirdness we've come to love from the internet and the children of it. So please, welcome it from the womb.

Third, I'm currently in the process of making A Vegetarian Mind a bit more appealing to the eyes. Possibly just my eyes, but it's a process I'm working on nonetheless. I'll start slowly, maybe with a new banner or minor layout changes. Nothing too drastic at first. I'm just growing tired of the look and feel of this place. I'm also so rusty with html it's not even funny. I've forgotten so much of my old html skills that they're basically non-existant now. So if anyone has any tips, tricks, suggestions, sites I can use - please do not hesitate to let me know.

And finally, I must leave you with something. Did you really think I'd just have a bunch of stupid words for you all? But hey, it's good for you anyway. What's the word to picture ratio of this place anyway? I'm spoiling you. I'll leave you with this video I took while in Palma, Majorca. I was sitting with some friends eating lunch when I heard the oh-so-familiar-and-lovely sound of the didgeridoo. It's an acquired taste, but to me it tastes so good (thanks to my brother). I followed the sound to a street performer and sat down to record his wonderful music. When I returned to the states I uploaded the video to YouTube thinking it would just sit there. I didn't mind, since I uploaded it mainly so I could watch it whenever I wanted. Some time later someone commented on the video telling me who it was. Then while trying to contact the performer he actually found the video himself. So, it all worked out. The video became quite popular (in the YouTube didgeridoo world) Quite a neat little story. So, please enjoy my video of Hernan Livolsi.

Animal of the Day - 11.4.2010

A squirrel and a bee.

Also, the little shell-mouse from my post earlier today has been given life thanks to Rorschach. It made me laugh out loud, a proper lol. Thank you, sir.
