Animal of the Day - 3.29.2011

This is a raccoon that's been coming around lately. In these pictures it is eating cat food set out by a crazy neighbor

When I took the last picture I noticed it ran off onto the patio where I set out cat food. I then thought it would be nice to put my video camera out and have video of it eating. I don't know why, but I think it's fun to watch it grab the food with its paws and then hear the crunching of it. Here's the video:

The next time I see it I'll try to feed it out of my hand. So look forward to a future "Random Photo of the Day" to feature a raccoon bite.

Animal of the Day - 3.23.2011

This is Craig. He belongs to the nice family who lives next door to my parents. He's one of the prettiest/neatest looking cats I've ever seen. He's also nice, which is a plus.

My Orchid - Part 3 & 3.5

The above pictures were taken this past Friday.

This next picture was taken less than a minute ago.

I wanted to add this last picture in with this update because it's growing so fast. I would have better pictures of it from today but I don't have a proper camera with me (I had to take the last picture with my phone). If I ever do anything like this again I'll set up my digital camera and keep it and the plant in the same spot to take some time lapse photos. It will be much more rewarding in the end for everyone.

Here are the last two sets of pictures of my orchid so you can see the growth: Part 1 - Part 2

Animal of the Day - 3.17.2011

Before I actually insert my Animal of the Day picture I'd like to say a few things.

First: Thank you for the birthday wishes. Although it's not like I gave you much of a choice when I had a post up for 3 days whoring out the anniversary of the day of my birth. I'd also like to give a Rorschach a special thank you for stabbing a carrot for me. I didn't think it was actually going to be a picture of a carrot being stabbed....

.....but I was wrong. And even though it was done in spite, I laughed very hard.

Second: It's been a somewhat busy birthday-week, so I haven't been able to visit any of your awesome blogs. Don't think I've neglected you, it's just taken me a while to blow out all my candles. Also, if any of you have emailed me in the past week it may have been completely lost. My email account has been going crazy lately and been putting almost 40% of my non-junk emails into my junk folder.

Third: I was going to make some sort of special St. Patrick's Day post today involving some of my favorite movies, the Leprechaun series. I was flipping through the channels to leave something on in the background for some ambient noise while I make this post when I saw that the SyFy channel is running a Leprechaun marathon today. As much as I hate watching movies on television (thanks to editing and commercials) I just can't pass up watching these horribly good horrible films. Luckily they're going backwards, ending with the original Leprechaun. Which is like starting your evening with prison wine, then switching to a "personal blend" created/picked by a co-worker who knows nothing of wine, then ending with a Silver Oak. You'll get drunk no matter what, but you obviously have your own preference.

Ok, I think that's it.

Oh, here's the Animal of the Day. I took this picture at the local aquarium.

My Orchid - Part 2

Because I have a plethora of new things to post, and because this orchid is growing so fast, I decided to go ahead and post Part 2 of this little "series." These photos were taken two days ago.

In case you didn't see the first few pictures of my orchid plant and don't feel like scrolling down a few inches, just click here

And because it bothers me to have these two orchid posts back to back, here's a bonus picture to break things up.

My Orchid - Part 1

This is my orchid plant. Technically it's my girlfriend's orchid plant, but I'm the one taking care of it. If it were a child I would be given custody.

I got this orchid as a gift for my girlfriend almost two years ago. I've watered it every week since then just out of habit. Last year was the last time anything bloomed, which made me very happy. But over the past few months, without me even noticing it, a new branch (or stem or whatever you'd call it) grew out and now has 6 little orchids blossoms ready to pop out and say hi. So apparently it likes me.

I'll keep posting updated pictures to show the progress of this nice little plant. Maybe I'll put together a little slideshow of it or something at the very end.

I hope you all had a good weekend.

Random Photo of the Day - 3.03.2011

Some plant life.

Sorry for the boring* pictures. I'm in the middle of doing more sorting of all of them.

Oh, ok. I can't just leave you with these pictures of flowers. I've left some bonus pictures for you after the jump....

Animal of the Day - 3.01.2011

This is Lola, a very beautiful pit bull who belongs to a co-worker/friend of my mother. I've yet to meet Lola, but when I do I will be a happy boy.

Speaking of a happy boy, my birthday is in 13 days and I feel very sad. You know how when someone's birthday comes around they'll say something like, "I feel so old. I can't believe I'm ____. I'm getting so old." Well, I've been saying that since I was 17. Feels bad, bro. Although one good thing is that all the restaurants with membership programs I've joined are really making me happy this month. I'll be enjoying some green tea ice cream cake, a beer of my choosing from The Flying Saucer, and some chocolate fondue for two - all for free. That's right, I'm happy about my memberships with RESTAURANTS. I'm getting so old.

Here's a bonus picture (Who's the bonus for? Me, I guess.)

I don't know the name of this dog. I was sitting in the car texting the girlfriend before I got out to pick up my dinner when a car parked next to me. Out of the corner of my eye I noticed the driver get out and walk away. I then noticed some movement, which I thought was a kid. As I got out I decided to risk the "awkward stranger eye contact" moment and was instead staring at this dog with an awesome black patch. When I got closer he/she started to wag his/her tail. I figured it wanted to be famous. So this is his/her 15 minutes.
